Thrive Academy Middle School

The middle school years at Thrive Academy represent a pivotal period of growth and transformation for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our program is intentionally designed to support increasing independence, self-advocacy, and the development of resilience as students learn to navigate the academic, social, and emotional demands of adolescence. Through structured instruction, individualized supports, and a predictable, supportive environment, we empower students to build confidence, strengthen executive functioning skills, and apply learned strategies across settings. Preparing them for continued success in both school and life.

Core Curriculum

Our core curriculum is thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of students with autism. We provide individualized instruction that honors each learner’s strengths while integrating academic learning with structured behavioral support, sensory regulation, social communication development, and emotional resilience. This holistic approach ensures students feel safe, supported, and empowered to grow both academically and personally.

Language Arts

In middle school, Language Arts focuses on strengthening communication, comprehension, and self-expression. Students develop reading fluency, writing skills, and vocabulary through structured instruction, guided discussions, and creative writing activities. Lessons emphasize understanding text, organizing ideas, and expressing thoughts clearly while building confidence in both written and verbal communication.

Science

Students explore scientific concepts through inquiry-based learning and hands-on investigations. Middle school science introduces topics such as life science, earth science, and physical science while encouraging observation, experimentation, and critical thinking. Lessons connect scientific ideas to real-world experiences and help students understand how science shapes the world around them.

Mathematics

Middle school mathematics builds on foundational skills while introducing more advanced concepts such as fractions, ratios, algebraic thinking, and problem-solving. Instruction uses visual models, real-world examples, and step-by-step strategies to support understanding. Students develop logical reasoning and practical math skills that support independence in everyday situations.

Social Studies

Social Studies expands students’ understanding of history, geography, cultures, and civic responsibility. Through discussions, projects, and interactive lessons, students explore how societies develop and how individuals contribute to their communities. The curriculum encourages curiosity, empathy, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives and historical events.

ELECTIVES

Middle school electives provide students the opportunity to explore a variety of engaging electives designed to spark curiosity and build real-world skills. Offerings such as STEM, culinary, art, and music allow students to discover and develop their individual interests while gaining hands-on experience. These electives not only enrich the academic experience but also empower students to build confidence, express creativity, and begin exploring potential career pathways.
